Partial and complete dentures are listed among our services as a way to replace several or all missing teeth.
Which option suits you depends on an examination, on the teeth that remain, and on what you want the result to do for you. Materials, timelines, and laboratory work are discussed at your consultation.
The two kinds
Partial and complete dentures.
Both are removable, and both are made to fit your own mouth. The difference is how much they replace.
What tends to bring this up
- Several teeth lost to decay or to gum disease
- Chewing on one side, or leaving foods alone because they have become difficult
- Remaining teeth that are not expected to last
- A change in how you sound when you speak
- A denture you already own that no longer fits the way it did
Which one replaces what
- A partial denture
- For when some of your own teeth remain. It fills the gaps around them and is held in place by the teeth that are still there.
- A complete denture
- For when a whole upper or lower arch is being replaced, and the denture rests on the gum rather than on remaining teeth.
The alternatives
Other ways to replace missing teeth.
A denture is not the only route, and it is worth knowing what the others involve before settling on one. Both of these are listed among our services and have their own page on this site.
Also listed among our services
- A bridge, which is fixed in place and spans a gap using the teeth on either side
- Dental implants, discussed at a consultation — including implant dentures, where a full arch is supported by implants
Relines & repairs
A denture you already wear.
Denture relines and repairs are listed among our services. A denture that has become loose or uncomfortable can often be relined rather than replaced.
Bring the denture with you so we can look at it. Whether a reline, a repair, or a remake is appropriate follows that examination.
Worth bringing in rather than living with
- A denture that has loosened, or that moves while you eat
- A sore spot that keeps returning in the same place
- A crack, or a tooth that has come away from the denture
- A denture that has been glued or repaired at home
Before you decide
Questions worth asking us.
Ask us at your consultation
- Whether a partial or a complete denture fits your situation
- What happens to the teeth that remain
- How the denture is cleaned and looked after
- What to do when it loosens over time
- What it will cost, and what your insurance covers
